U.S. military action ‘threat’ unites Pakistan

ISLAMABAD — U.S. accusations that Pakistan is supporting Afghan insurgents have triggered a nationalist backlash and whipped up media fears of an American invasion, drowning out any discussion over the army’s long use of jihadi groups as deadly proxies in the region.

  1. Of course, the United States has a long history of using these same jihadi groups going back to Jimmy Carter. While US covert support for the Afghan mujahadin against the Soviets is widely known, these same groups were later used in Bosnia, Chechnya and Azerbaijan. Many of the bagmen and organizers are the same folks who are now our mortal enemy.
