Cease-Fire for Harvests Offers Respite in Afghanistan

Time to get the Cannabis harvested! Pine nuts too!

OBSERVATION POST TWINS, Afghanistan — When an 82-millimeter mortar round slammed onto a bunker at this mountaintop post last week, its explosion signaled more than the start of another attack on an American position overlooking an arc of hostile Afghan villages. It marked the end of a particular harvest.   www.nytimes.com/2011/10/07/world/asia/harvesting-cease-fire-offers-respite-in-afghanistan.html?_r=1

Chicago auto workers denounce UAW-Ford deal

By Jerry White
7 October 2011
Big Union leadership was coopted by the big boys decades ago!

“People are tired of this … they’re getting to the breaking point”

At the Ford assembly plant in south Chicago, workers expressed disgust with the contract signed by the United Auto Workers. In particular, they denounced the pay freeze for long-time workers—who have not had a raise in eight years—and expansion of the two-tier wage system that is condemning young workers to a life of insecurity and poverty.

Democrats blame China, not Wall Street

The bill that was poised for passage in the US Senate Thursday with bipartisan support, mandating a US currency war with China, is a cynical diversion. Amid a rising tide of protest directed against Wall Street, the Democrats are taking the lead in an effort to provide a foreign scapegoat for the crisis of American capitalism.

The White House, together with much of corporate America, sees the value in using anti-China demagogy to divert popular anger over the economic crisis away from Wall Street and towards a foreign scapegoat.

Finally, even if such legislation were to be adopted, trade war with China would do nothing to reverse the decline of American manufacturing and the living standards of American workers, which is the product of the global crisis of the capitalist system, not the policies of a single country. The shock effects on the world economy would actually destroy jobs, not create them.

Even more dangerously, such an action would be a dramatic step towards outright military conflict with China, a rising military as well as economic power, which represents a threat to the longstanding domination of American imperialism in the Asian-Pacific region. www.wsws.org/articles/2011/oct2011/pers-o07.shtml

The Nation, ISO seek to channel Wall Street protests back to the Democratic Party

Even the socialists are worried the Occupy Wall Street Protests are being coopted by the dems as the Tea Party has largely been coopted by the repubs.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has struck a chord with millions of people. The wide support for the protests reveals the true state of public opinion in the US and elsewhere: opposition to the profit system has deepened and broadened enormously over the past several years. “Capitalism” is increasingly a dirty word, synonymous with great wealth for a handful and unbearable conditions for the vast majority.
The ISO/Socialist Worker editorial posted October 5, “Making common cause against Wall Street,” welcomes the fact that “Organized labor is weighing in on the side of the Occupy Wall Street protests. … The entry of major unions … points to the potential for the Occupy movement to deepen its social roots.” This last claim is entirely false. The American “unions” today are business organizations, operated by well-heeled officials and dedicated to the defense of the corporations and the wealthy. Their participation is not a deepening of the movement’s “social roots,” but an attempt to rip those roots out of the ground.www.wsws.org/articles/2011/oct2011/nati-o07.shtml

The Fascist Threat

Thesis = Capitalism, Antithesis = Socialism/Communism, Synthesis = Fascism
Nothing but false choices, controlled opposition controlled by the big money boys. How about a choice of freedom and liberty instead!

Fascism is the system of government that cartelizes the private sector, centrally plans the economy to subsidize producers, exalts the police State as the source of order, denies fundamental rights and liberties to individuals, and makes the executive State the unlimited master of society.
This describes mainstream politics in America today. And not just in America. It’s true in Europe, too. It is so much part of the mainstream that it is hardly noticed any more.  lewrockwell.com/rockwell/fascist-threat192.html

IRS ruling strikes fear in medical marijuana industry

In a potentially crushing blow to the burgeoning medical marijuana industry, the IRS has ruled that dispensaries cannot deduct standard business expenses such as payroll, security or rent.
Harborside Health Center, one of the nation's largest medical marijuana dispensaries and considered a model for the industry, is on the hook for $2.5 million in taxes from 2007 and 2008.  That is $2 million more than the Oakland, Calif.-based company paid for those tax years.

The Two Coming American Revolutions.

The Enemy of my Enemy is NOT my Friend.

When the American Empire collapses, we will face two paths. We will either fall into another Dark Ages where fear and terror reign. Or we will have another Renaissance where ideas and freedom are cherished.  Just like the American and French Revolutions, the key for our society, will be what do we stand for and not as much what we are against.

Russia submits new draft on Syria

Russia has strongly opposed sanctions or forcing regime change in Syria, which the new European draft implies, according to Churkin. The Russian ambassador believes western discussion of ‘who is legitimate and who is not’ will only encourage violence in the Middle Eastern country.
The Russian version of the draft also contains a call for Syrian authorities to release “all political prisoners and detained peaceful demonstrators.”
Churkin went on to condemn the resolution proposed earlier by a group of Western countries, including the UK, France, Portugal and Germany, and backed by the US, as another step aimed at changing the regime in the country:

"We believe that opinions expressed in certain capitals on whichever regime is legitimate and whichever isn’t, serves only to promote violence in Syria. It will bring dangerous and even tragic repercussions for the country."  http://rt.com/news/syria-west-russia-sanctions-571/

How Long Must We Wait Before Something is Done About BBC Scotland

It’s happened again.  A story relating to Abdelbaset al-Megrahi appears to have been manipulated by BBC Scotland.

Yesterday Reuters released an interview with Megrahi in which the Libyan protested innocence saying the truth over Lockerbie would soon be released.
The man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing described those responsible for his conviction as ‘liars’ and complained that his name had been ‘exaggerated’ by the west.
However journalistic integrity once more vanished when the phrase “exaggerated my NAME” became “exaggerated my ROLE” as the halting words of a dying man speaking a second language were blatantly manipulated by firstly Reuters and then the BBC.  http://www.newsnetscotland.com/index.php/scottish-opinion/3340-how-long-must-we-wait-before-something-is-done-about-bbc-scotland.html

Gilad Atzmon:Foreign Interests In Our Midst

For British readers.
The Jewish Chronicle reported yesterday that Israeli War Criminal Mrs Tzipi Livni is heading to Britain following the amendment of Britain’s universal jurisdiction law.

Under the old terms, ethically driven British citizens were able to apply for an arrest warrant for suspected war criminals. That meant that Israeli political and military leaders were strictly advised to stay away from this kingdom. http://www.gilad.co.uk/writings/gilad-atzmon-foreign-interests-in-our-midst.html

Haaretz: Panetta Arrives in Israel for ‘Urgent Consultations’ on Iran

I have been writing for more than two years about the possibility of an Israeli war against Iran (make no mistake, an Israeli attack on Iran will notbe just a single discrete operation, but involve an ongoing, and regional war).  And I’ve never felt closer to the idea it was going to happen.  If it does, all of the political developments that led up to it should be fodder for an international studies colloquim on national conflicts, how they start, how to avoid them, and how needless and futile they are.
Today, Haaretz blares a headline (Hebrew print edition only) for a story by Amos Harel:
Second Meeting in Two Weeks:
U.S. Defense Secretary Arrives for Urgent Consultation on Iran
This is no ordinary meeting. http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/2011/10/03/haaretz-panetta-arrives-in-israel-for-urgent-consultations-on-iran/

Occupy Wall Street: Strike The Root! Video Contest

Need $400. Strike the Root has a vid contest!

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. – Henry David Thoreau
Striking the root is a concept advocated by abolitionist, individualist anarchist and trancendetalist Henry David Thoreau. He believed that striking the cause (the “root”) was preferable to hacking at the effects (the “branches”).
The effects of corporatism and subsequent gaps in wealth that exist between the haves and have nots are obvious. Those active with Occupy Wall know this better than most. However, to not recognize that these are only things that stem from a root cause is to unfortunately miss the matter .http://www.copblock.org/occupy-wall-street-strike-the-root/

Will Uncle Sam Go Postal in South Asia?

The US is now risking a military confrontation with old ally Pakistan that is both highly dangerous and unpredictable in the extreme.

Federal & Local Law Enforcement Agencies Try to Take Family Motel from Innocent Owners

Imagine you own a million-dollar piece of property free and clear, but then the federal government and local law enforcement agents announce that they are going to take it from you, not compensate you one dime, and then use the money they get from selling your land to pad their budgets—all this even though you have never so much as been accused of a crime, let alone convicted of one.http://www.libertariannews.org/2011/10/04/federal-local-law-enforcement-agencies-try-to-take-family-motel-from-innocent-owners/

The Myth of Constitutional Money

All this doubtless sounds good. But here at DB, we've always argued against the idea that Washington DC, or even states, should print money and distribute it, presumably through banks. It's a kind of elite-driven dominant social theme in our view, though one, we've granted, that might be a bit better (at least in the short term) than what we've got now ...
The trouble is that, contrary to arguments of the public money crowd, the Anglosphere elite that wants to run the world probably doesn't much care where central banking is lodged so long as it exists, or not at this point anyway. By now governments are in their collective pocket. Public, private or standing on its head, the very presence of central banking in any form may guarantee its continuing abuse by the same crowd of controllers.http://www.thedailybell.com/3028/The-Myth-of-Constitutional-Money

USDA threatens $60,000 fine, federal raid against woman in legal possession of indoor lemon tree

(NaturalNews) The US government's assault against innocent American citizens continues to get more aggressive and just plain strange, with new reports of harassment against honest owners of ordinary lemon trees. Saudi Arabia blames riots on 'outside forces'

Saudi Arabia has blamed an unnamed foreign power for clashes that took place in its oil-rich Eastern Province in which it says 14 people were injured.
The unrest, on Monday night, occurred in the Gulf coast city of Qatif, which is home to a large Shia population and was the scene of protests earlier this year.

"A foreign country is trying to undermine national security by inciting strife in Qatif," Saudi state television cited the interior ministry as saying on Tuesday. http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2011/10/2011104154541907192.html

Bad Financial News Keeps Pouring In: 14 Facts That Just Might Scare The Living Daylights Out Of You

99%Wrong

Just as I believe that most people who attended Tea Party rallies were sincere, I’m willing to cut the same slack to these corporation-hating hipster doofuses who clogged the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday. They’re frustrated and feel that the powerful don’t listen to them. Good for them.
But despite their sincerity, they may become the unwitting tools of those who love the idea of world government more than they claim to hate the idea of American capitalism. And no corporation on Earth could ever truly imperil the well-being of “the people”—all 99 plus 1 percent of them—more than a one-world government.

RESTORE the CONSTITUTION!

By Jim Kirwan
10-4-11

There seems to be a huge confabulation surrounding what,s at stake with the demonstrators on and around Wall Street. Apparently these people cannot decide on what the FCK they want from the rest of us.

For me this one is easy.

Restore the Constitution and ENFORCE every provision therein.

This ought to be simple enough

For everyone whether they are observers or participants!

We had a Constitution that over the decades became just another dust-encrusted artifact for those that illegally took over power in this place. The deaf, dumb and blind public let them do this: And now they are upset because they no longer have ANY RIGHTS to fall back on.

I simply cannot believe that these so-called demonstrators are having any real difficulty defining what is they "WANT. If they actually knew anything about the roots of this nation or the constitution; there would be a universal cry for the RESTORATION of the  U.S. CONSTITUTION. But since most know absolutely nothing about what that document was created to give to all Americans: They cannot decide what it is that they supposedly want from their public display of dissatisfaction with everything today.http://www.rense.com/general94/restore.htm

Chinese suspicion over US intentions

By Michael S Chase

Recently, a number of Chinese analysts have argued United States diplomatic and military actions in the region - including Washington's efforts to assure allies in response to North Korean attacks, its engagement with Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia, and its statements about resolving competing claims in the South China Sea - reflect what they see as a desire to ensure that China's emergence will not challenge US interests.  http://atimes.com/atimes/China/MJ05Ad02.html

US behind 'secession' plot in Hong Kong?

Lee then gives the address of this anti-Beijing "task force" as 26 Garden Road, where the US consulate is located.

Lee and the Foreign Ministry's local office are upset because the cables show American diplomats have engaged in regular dialogue with Hong Kong political leaders and judges who sit on the city's Court of Final Appeal. Lee even goes on to name a Hong Kong "Gang of Four" - former chief secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang, founder of the Democratic Party Martin Lee Chu-ming, media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying and Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, formerly the Vatican's Bishop of Hong Kong - whom he says are the most welcome and regular invitees to consular luncheons and meetings and thus clearly conspirators in the American plot to stoke trouble here.   http://atimes.com/atimes/China/MJ05Ad01.html

When It Comes to State-Sanctioned Murder, Morality Matters Most

The recent extrajudicial killing of two American citizens, most notably radical Islamic cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, has spurred a curious debate over whether the action, personally ordered by President Barack Obama, was right or wrong — curious for its conspicuous focus not on whether assassinations are right or wrong, but on whether they are “legal” or not.
But law and morality are not the same thing.

Occupy Boston: Day One

The $64 trillion dollar question, “When will Americans hit the streets like people in other countries?” has been answered. Over the last several days, occupations have spread from Wall St., and erupted in more than 50 cities across America.
I asked a well-dressed young man exiting work for directions to the park. He didn’t know the location, and I didn’t tell him why I was going (fearing he may intentionally misdirect me). Unfortunately, my cover was blown when ‘Brian’ asked a coworker for the whereabouts. Brian pointed me in the direction of South Station and offered his opinion, “I work for an investment bank. I am a capitalist… but I don’t agree with American-style capitalism.” Without pause, he refined his thoughts, “I am a socialist.” http://dissidentvoice.org/2011/10/occupy-boston-day-one-2/

American Christian Fascists

If fascism ever comes to America, it won’t be through insignificant groups such as American Nazis or the KKK, both of which together could field a couple of softball teams. It’ll come through “Christians,” specifically the blood-thirsty ones who support war.

This kind of Christian supports the State, and Israel and wars, because they think by doing so, they can get Jesus to come back and slaughter all the “infidels” (first those infidels were the Communists, now they’re Muslims). They won’t be around to watch any of this, because they believe they’ll be wafted to Heaven in the Rapture. They believe they’ll be watching the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse romp all over the world from on high.

Do Not Allow President Obama To Impose Martial Law

Some people are predicting that there will be a major economic collapse, caused by unsustainable debts and other government intrusions into private economic matters, and by central banks’ excessive money-printing.

The ignorance displayed in these interviews knows no bounds. The protesters just don’t get it. They are calling for the government to use force to impose their ideas, all in the name of bringing down corporations who they don’t realize have completely bought off government regulators.

The thousands of Americans currently expressing their disgust at Wall Street and the bankers who have ruined the economy to the detriment of the poor and middle class should be commended for getting off their hind ends and doing something, unlike the millions who will continue to watch American Idol, drink beer and laugh in ignorance as the country is flushed down the toilet.
